![]() So Monkey and Sandy have to go beat him up. Monkey is like: “This is hilarious…but we obviously need to fix this.” And an old lady tells him that he needs water from the Abortion Stream in the Child Destruction Cave of the Male-Undoing Mountain (not beating around the bush with these names!) – but that this old Daoist priest has been squatting there and charging people exorbitant rates to access it. No, I am not making this up! The travelers, you see, had just crossed the border into the western kingdom of women, and the two men accidentally drank from the Mother and Child stream. Oh, and near the start the problem is that Tripitaka and Pigsy get pregnant. At one point this leads to Monkey claiming he can cure a king’s illness, much to the alarm of Tripitaka, who’s like: “Dude, I know you don’t have a medical license! WTF are you doing?” Also, Tripitaka and Monkey have a dramatic breakup over the murder of some bandits that eventually leads to Monkey fighting his own doppelganger. But we also get three episodes where instead the threat is that someone wants to marry him (which he is VERY not into), or where the inciting incident is actually someone else’s problem. ![]() Yes, there are still a lot of demons trying to eat Tripitaka as an anti-aging tonic. For one thing, it feels like there are more components to each adventure - each could be its own movie, almost. ![]() Another delightful installment in this saga! I almost regret giving the first two volumes 5 stars, because there’s no way to indicate that I think this one levels up the fun even more.
